4 Places to Run Stair Sprints in San Diego

Running stairs beats a treadmill any day of the week. You can sprint and create intervals without any real thought. The shorter stride makes it a better way for beginners to start sprinting than flat out on a track. Here are four great places to run stair sprints in San Diego.

Strongman: More Than Big Weights

I’m not your typical strongman. I compete in a category often referred to as the “little fellas.” My fellow competitors and I have to weigh in at a weight of 175# or less. We’re not exactly the gargantuans you see on ESPN. But if you are fortunate enough to witness one of our competitions you see some amazing ant-like feats of strength. If you have ever thought you were too small, too “normal” sized, or too average to compete in strongman or train like one, this story is for you.

2013 is almost here so that means a lot of looking back on 2012. Its been a good year for the Strong Made Simple site. There have been a lot of improvements not the least of which may be my writing. Here are my top 10 most viewed articles from 2012.

New Year's Day 2012 Workout

Today was New Year's Day and I spent much of it at Mission Beach practicing some MovNat skills as well as some general playing around and trying new things. The following videos demonstrate some of the goofiness.

You don't have to go to Disney anymore to ride the Tea Cups!

The Wolf Run is just fun to do. Maybe I can justify it by calling a practice in horizontal triple extension.

We also did some variations of kettlebell carries, including farmers walks, clean rack position, and waiters walks. Some Turkish Get Up practice was also mandatory.

Meatheads in the Park

Last weekend I invited several other coaches and trainers from the San Diego area to meet with me in a park by the bay to eat pulled pork sandwiches, lift stuff, play on monkey bars, and talk shop. Despite not needing all 14 pounds of pulled pork and a whole gallon of dill pickles I had brought I felt it was a successful endeavor and hopefully the first of many to come. I'll recap a few points I took from a day of BBQ, comradery, and lifting stuff.
