This last Saturday I made the trip up to Huntington Beach along with Ryan Burgess and Adam Dobler to compete in the 5th Annual California's Strongest Man. I feel like despite the brain fog that often overcomes me after a day of competing, I'm still beaming with pride at the performances from everyone while we were there.Adam and I were competing in the <200 division and Ryan competed alongside the heavyweights. Each of the weight classes had a great showing of competitors both new and seasoned. I was especially excited to compete alongside Adam in his debut competition.
Personally, I was mentally prepared to show up and have some fun moving things, regardless of the standings. I was still feeling a little uncertain of myself since a less than stellar showing at the Strongman Fitness World Championships. Especially, considering I would be competing up a weight class and giving up nearly 30# to some of the competition. I think I had forgotten how competitive I can be until I was set up for the first event, the Overhead Medley, and the contest promoter yelled go.
Brian Tabor, Overhead Medley
Adam Dobler, 650# Tire Flip
Everyone had some great event showings throughout the day. You can find the rest of my events and Adam's over at the Strong Made Simple Youtube Channel. At the end of the day, Adam made an excellent showing for his first competition ever after only a couple months of training. I shook off my mental cobwebs and managed to finish 1st in the <200 weight class and qualified to compete at the North American Strongman National Championships. And Ryan also took 3rd in the heavyweights and qualified for nationals as well. You should be able to find updates on his contest day at his youtube page.
Additionally, I want to thank everyone that came out to support us and cheer us on. It was amazing having such a great group of friends to cheer us all on and share the day by the ocean in Huntington Beach.
