The Balboa Park’s Juniper Staircase is 98 steps of rugged glory. The steps are mostly shaded and at the base of the stairs there is a fork where two trails begin. These stairs are made of earth and rocks, but they are plenty stable. I would recommend bringing music with you due to the noise produced by the 163 freeway. It is located south of the intersection of Balboa drive and Juniper Road.
